Rental Rebate Program for Elderly & Disabled Kicks Off Another Year

State law provides a reimbursement program for Connecticut renters who are elderly or totally disabled, and whose incomes do not exceed certain limits. Persons renting an apartment or room, or living in cooperative housing may be eligible for this program. The EAA is now taking applications for the CT Renter’s Rebate program. Call the EAA for more information!

Having Trouble Affording Summer Camp for your Children?

The EAA has funding available to subsidize participation for eligible Suffield children and youth attending Suffield Park & Rec and other camp programs. For more information, please call the EAA.

The Salvation Army Camp Opportunities

Summer camp registration has begun for the Salvation Army Camp CONNRI in beautiful Ashford, Conn. The camp is open to children age 8-12. The youth overnight camp is only $35 for four nights! Call the EAA for specific dates at 860-668-1986.

Amazing 4-H Camp Opportunity for Eligible Suffield Children

The EAA, in partnership with the Hartford County 4-H Camp, is pleased to offer income- eligible Suffield families with children age 9 -14, camp opportunities in July. The cost of the weekly overnight camp is $460, but the cost to the family is only $100 per camper! The balance will be subsidized by the Hartford County 4-H and the EAA. Some Ongoing Programs and Updates

National Mail Carriers Food Drive a Great Success!

The Emergency Aid Association extends a big thanks to all the residents who donated through the Mail Carriers Food Drive held on May 12. Staff & volunteers were kept busy throughout the day stocking the shelves. We especially want to thank our mail carriers for helping make this drive so successful.

Parkinson’s Peer Support Group Meets Monthly at the Suffield Senior Center 

The group’s goal is to share ideas and resources in the management and treatment of Parkinson’s. The next meeting is June 11 from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. Caregivers are welcome and encouraged to attend. Topics vary monthly. Refreshments are served. For more information, call Janet at the EAA.

Playing With Parkinson’s

This documentary features Sangeeta Berardi, a successful guitarist, who has played with jazz greats. In the film, Sangeeta plays, but in a different way, because he is also playing with Parkinson’s. The 50-minute documentary will be shown on Monday, June 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the training room of the Suffield Ambulance. The screening is hosted by the Emergency Aid Association and the Kent Memorial Library (KML). Resources will be available from the Connecticut Advocates for Parkinson’s. People are welcome to drop in to the program, although if possible, participants are asked to register at KML’s website, suffield-library.org or call at 860-668-3896. Light refreshments will be served.

Need Help with Housing Repairs? 

The Ellington Regional Housing Rehabilitation Program is available for Suffield homeowners. If you are a low or moderate income household, (ex. family of four may earn up to $65,800) you may be eligible for a deferred payment loan with no interest and no payments as long as you own your home. The loan can be used for roofing, septic, well, plumbing, heating, electrical, handicap accessibility, asbestos/lead abatement, carpentry and other repair work on single and multi-family units up to 4 units. Suffield Community Mental Health & Resource Fair

Lots of organizations were on site at Sacred Heart Church on Saturday, May 12 to share information on mental health resources.
