Children’s Summer Reading program

Here’s how it works: Come to the library and register. Read by yourself or together, from June 16 – August 4, and earn two free raffle tickets each week: one for a weekly prize and the other for a Grand Prize to be awarded at the end of the seven-week program. And the wheel is back! Each week you participate, you get to spin the wheel for more fun giveaways.

Magically Christina for families, Saturday, June 23, 10:30 a.m.

Prepare to be dazzled by Christina the Magician on Saturday, June 23, 1:30 p.m. at the Second Baptist Church, 100 N. Main Street. This family program features amazing sleight-of-hand magic combined with a touch of comedy that will have universal appeal to all age groups. You might just be chosen to be a volunteer assistant!

Paw Patrol Story Time for children ages 3 – 6, Wednesday, June 27, 10:15 a.m.

Meet Chase from Paw Patrol at the KML, 61 Ffyler Place. Hear stories, play games, and make a craft. It’s a great opportunity to have a picture taken with the popular German Shepherd. Registration required.

Summer Story Time with Holly for children ages 3 – 6, Wednesdays July 11, 18, 25, and August 1, 10:15 a.m. at the KML, 61 Ffyler Place.

Horizon Wings Bird Program for families, Saturday, July 14, 10:30 a.m.

There’s a thrill to being up close to an eagle, hawk, or falcon! This interactive program will introduce you to some spectacular birds and tell you why a crow is classified as a songbird! This program will be held at the Second Baptist Church, 100 N. Main Street. Registration required.

Dance Party Workshop for kids in grades K – 4, Tuesday, July 17, 1:30 p.m.

Learn easy to follow party dance moves lead by DJ Red Supreme. Exercise; build self-confidence and self-expression on the dance floor. Get your groove on at the Second Baptist Church, 100 N. Main Street. Registration required.

Pasta Making Workshop for kids ages 5 – 9 and their families, Thursday, July 19, 1:30 p.m.

Try your hand at making bow-tie pasta, yes, from scratch, with Colleen Bell. Roll, pinch and take pasta home to eat. Children must come with an adult. This program will be held at the Second Baptist Church, 100 N. Main Street. Registration required.

Soap Making Workshop for kids grades 1 – 4, Tuesday, July 24, 10:30 a.m. or 1 p.m.

Join the KML creative team and learn how to make soap. Use color, scent, soap stickers, skin safe glitter and more. Once you complete the bars of soap, take them home in a gift bag, basket or decorative box. The workshop will run 30 to 40 minutes at 10:30 a.m. or 1 p.m. Registration required.

Artist Workshop with Patsy for kids grades 1 – 4, Tuesday, July 31 and Thursday, August 2, 6:30 p.m.

Hands-on workshop at KML that introduces children to techniques used by the great masters! Create, explore and learn. Registration required.

Teen Summer Reading program

You can read a book or a magazine–you can read just about anything!

Come to the library from June 16 to August 4 and fill out a raffle ticket. Earn two free raffle tickets each week: one for a weekly prize (a $10 gift card to Dunkin Donuts or Subway). The second raffle ticket is for a Grand Prize (a $100 gift card to Amazon or Target). And the wheel is back! Each week you participate, you get to spin the wheel for more fun giveaways. Seven chances to win!!! The Grand Prize will be awarded at the end of the seven-week program.

Teen Pizza Making Workshop for grades 6 – up, Tuesday, June 27, 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Create your own dough from scratch and bake your pizza right in class using a variety of toppings. This program will be held at Second Baptist Church, 100 N. Main Street. Registration required. Nom nom nom!

Make an Emoji Pillow for grades 6 – up, Tuesday, July 10, 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Everyone loves emojis! What better way to embrace them than in a pillow. Make a 16-inch circular fleece pillow that is closed with a zipper on the back. This program will be held at 61 Ffyler Place, Suffield. Registration required.

Dance Party Workshop for grades 5 – up, Tuesday, July 17, 3 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Move and groove to Hip Hop party music. Red Supreme will teach freestyle Hip Hop, fun line dances and discuss the importance of stretching. Get your groove on at the Second Baptist Church, 100 N. Main Street. Registration required.

Soap Making Workshop for grades 5 – up, Tuesday, July 24, 2:30 p.m.

Tech Day for Families, Saturday, July 28, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Bring the family and try out Kent Memorial Library’s cool new tech toys. There will also be snacks and a free raffle. Drop in at 61 Ffyler Place.
