This abundance of cupcakes symbolizes the cupcake decorating class being offered on February 5 by Parks and Rec.

It is getting cold, it is getting darker out earlier and maybe you have been on your electronic gadgets too much. What is the solution? Sign up for some fun and exciting programs offered at the Parks and Recreation Department! There is a variety of programs offered for children-adult. For the pre-school age children and their caregivers, kick off the New Year right on January 7 with the Fun Family Fitness program that boasts keeping the family fit and healthy while developing gross motor skills with movement and music.

The Children’s Fitness Squad program and The Speed Training Clinics will begin in January for elementary school children and both of these classes offer great cross training, strength and agility for all sports.

Elementary School children can also flip in to their after school schedule in January and participate in our new cheerleading program designed to teach them the fundamentals of cheerleading and tumbling.

For those youngsters who prefer to challenge their creativity, we have many fun arts and crafts classes including: Pizza Party and Playtime, So Cool Snowman with Cookies, Cocoa and Crafting, and the fun Very Cool Valentine’s day crafting classes in January and February.

The Suffield Parks and Recreation Department is not just for children. We offer many enriching and fun adult programs including: the Adult Recreational Volleyball winter session that will begin in January. Register early for this popular program, as it fills up fast. There are a variety of new Fitness programs beginning in January including: the Free “How to Get Healthy in the New year” Workshop, Lunchtime Yoga, New Year-Fit New You Program, Boxilates, and the Gliding Full Body program.

Do you want to have a fun night out with the family and get some exercise? Our Friends and Family Bowling program is held on Thursday nights and will start another session on January 3 at the beautifully renovated Spare Time Lanes. Also, do not let the cold weather keep you indoors-join our free Lunchtime Walkers/Snowshoe program that begins on Tuesday, January 8. Bundle up and join in on the fun while making new exercise friends and getting fit.

Would you like to learn to decorate cupcakes like a pro? Take our all-new Cupcake Decorating Class Made Easy taught by the talented and former award winning Hall of Fame Certified Wilton Method Decorating instructor, Sandy Nelson on Tuesday, February 5th from 6:00-9:00 p.m. in the activity room at the Parks and Recreation office on 97 Mountain Road.

We also offer many inclusive programs including the Bowling Buddies and Outing group and the Bowling Buddies Jr. program. The new session of Bowling Buddies Jr. begins on January 8th. The Bowling Buddies group bowls each Tuesday at Spare Time Lanes and also goes on many fun outings throughout the year.
