This friendly fellow is Sami, of the Urch family. He lives on North Grand Streeet, but without a collar, where will he keep his tag?

Starting June 1, dog licenses with a current rabies certificate may be renewed online. Once the transaction is completed, a tag will be mailed to you. Our new online registration system will accept Master Card, Visa, Discover and American Express. Credit card fees will apply on all transactions.

Connecticut State Law requires all dogs 6 months of age or older to be licensed in the town of residency. Proof of current rabies vaccination and spay or neutering, if applicable, must be provided at the time of the application. Rabies tags alone are not an accepted proof of vaccination. After June 30, by law there will be an additional charge of $1 per month for each month the dog is not licensed.  The yearly dog registration period set by State mandate runs from June 1 through May 31.

All fees are set by Connecticut State Statue and are as follows: Dogs who are spayed or neutered $8; Dogs who are not spayed or neutered $19.

Renewal reminders have been mailed in May for currently licensed dogs. Payment may be made in Town Hall via cash or check. Credit cards will be accepted only online and not in the Town Clerk’s Office.

Updated Rabies certificates are always welcome to keep your dog’s certification current.

Saturday, June 15, the Town of Suffield is hosting a Rabies Clinic at the Suffield Fire Department, 73 Mountain Road from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This clinic is open to residents of Suffield, East Granby, Granby and Windsor Locks. Dogs must be leashed and cats must be in a carrier. The cost of this program is $10 (cash only). To receive a three year rabies certificate you must bring a copy of your current rabies vaccination certificate. If you cannot provide a copy of your pets current rabies vaccination records, a one year vaccination will be administered.

If you are unable to come to Town Hall, the Town Clerk’s office also accepts dog license renewals by mail. If the rabies certificate on file is current, please return the renewal form and payment. If the dog’s rabies certificate has expired since the last renewal period, please forward a copy of the current rabies certification so we may update our data. The 2019 license will then be mailed to you. Please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope.

We continue to honor the tradition of recognizing those service dogs who reside in Suffield by graciously awarding them one of the first ten tags.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Town Clerk’s office at 860-668-3880 Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
