Troop 260 Assistant Scoutmaster Art Sikes, Jr., offers a traditional left-handed handshake to his grandson, Sam Sikes, this year’s winner of the troop’s Arthur Sikes, Sr., Summer Adventure Award. Scouting is a family affair, as the late Arthur Sikes, Sr., was an Assistant Scoutmaster in Troop 160, years ago, and Chris Sikes, Sam’s father, is a Troop 260 Assistant Scoutmaster. The biennial award named for Sam’s great-grandfather requires considerable camping and nature-related achievement by its winner. This year it paid $200 of Sam’s expense for the troop’s week-long Allagash River trip. Sharing in the pictured moment is fellow Scout Tom Gilleran, center, who was among the Scouts in that experience.
