Hartford Hospital’s “Take the Time” Digital Mobile Mammography will be in Suffield on October 29! If you are a woman over the age of 40 and have not had a mammogram in the last 12 months, you can sign up for a screening that day. This state-of-the-art digital mammography technology has benefitted over 7,000 woman in the Greater Hartford area and neighboring communities. All screenings are conducted on the coach bus and screening takes less than 15 minutes with privacy and comfort assured. Available time slots are limited so sign up early. Bereavement Support Group Starts up Again: Masonicare is partnering with Suffield Community Aid to offer an eight-session support group to persons who are grieving the loss of a loved one. The group will meet at SCA, 450 South Street, beginning September 20 and ending on November 15 from 11 a.m. –12:30 p.m. The program is offered at no cost and a light lunch will be provided. The Suffield Mini-Bus will be available to assist with transport but residents must call and reserve in advance. You’re invited to The Memory Café! For those with early to moderate cognitive loss and their friends and family, come for fun, company and conversation. “Stuff-a-Cruiser”–A Major Success! Thanks to this amazing community, so many people came out in support of our backpack and food collection! A total of $2,365 was raised, $1,500 from Highland Park’s Families Foundation! SCA is grateful to the event sponsors, State Rep, Tammy Zawistowski, Highland Park Market and the Suffield Police Department.
Parkinson’s Peer Support Group Meets Monthly at the Suffield Senior Center: The group’s goal is to share ideas and resources in the managements and treatment of Parkinson’s disorder. Meetings are held the second Monday of each month from 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Caregivers are welcome and encouraged to attend. Topics vary monthly. Refreshments are served. Dementia Caregiver Support Group: The group meets the last Tuesday of each month at Suffield Senior Center, 145 Bridge Street at 11 a.m. The next meeting is September 24. You do not need to be a resident of Suffield to attend. The group is led by a trained Alzheimer’s Association facilitator, Nicole Matson of Home Helpers of Central CT. Rental Rebate Program for Elderly & Disabled Residents: State law provides a reimbursement program for Connecticut renters who are elderly or totally disabled, and whose incomes do not exceed certain limits. Persons renting an apartment or room, or living in cooperative housing may be eligible for this program. The SCA is now taking applications for the CT Renter’s Rebate program. Last day to apply is October 1. Call SCA for more information!
