Hilltop Farm Updates

Perennial and annual flowers grace the photo garden east of the big white barn at Hilltop Farm.

Although it may not be obvious, Hilltop Farm is now much closer to achieving our goal of being able to host events in our historic Big White Barn!

The structure supporting the upper level of the barn has been reinforced to allow for the anticipated building occupancy, the massive barn doors have been reversed to facilitate emergency exit, and the barn floor just inside the doors is being smoothed so the barn is easier to enter.

Upgrades to the fire detection and alarm system and the final phase of the fire suppression system should be complete by spring.

Last, but not least, a new electric ADA shuttle from an anonymous HFPG donor will allow us to bring people right up to the barn from the handicapped parking area.

All of this means that we could be ready to host exhibits and events inside the barn in 2020.

Photo Garden

Volunteers have created a lovely photo garden east of the corncrib. It’s a treat to sit there and enjoy the birds.

Corncrib

The corncrib got a whole new roof this summer as well as some new siding and a stairway. If you have always wondered what was in there, check it out!

Herb Garden

The Suffield Girl Scouts have started growing herbs for Suffield Community Aid. Their creative garden is in an old concrete feed trough just north of the corncrib.

Chickens in the Coop

Suffield Agriscience student Sydney Eitel is bringing chickens back to the coop! Many thanks to the Suffield Rotary for reroofing part of the coop and helping make the space chicken-ready!
