Survivor Journeys Wants Your Hero’s Story

Print More

From the moment someone is diagnosed with cancer, (s)he becomes a survivor. Some have precious little time after the diagnosis, while some go on to live many years, but all are enlisted in the struggle. And like any war, there are heroes. People, who in the face of great odds and obstacles, display amazing courage, often just by putting one foot in front of the other and persevering, while a few buckle under the burden, many more rise up to throw everything they can against it. It is the story of that struggle that Survivor Journeys wants to honor no matter how brief or long the fight has been.

Do you have a friend or family member who has had or is still having an inspirational journey? What would you like people to know about this person’s story and the courage (s)he has shown in the face of a cancer diagnosis? How does that person inspire you?

To nominate someone as your cancer hero, please fill out the nomination form, which can be found at www.survivorjourneys.org. Tell us what it is that makes your nominee inspiring. The nomination can be submitted on line or mailed to Survivor Journeys, P.O. Box 60471, Longmeadow, Mass. 01116-2826. The deadline for nominations is October 14.

Survivor Journeys will be celebrating cancer heroes on Thursday, November 21 at a catered event at Monticello at Somers, 732 Hall Hill Road, in Somers Conn. The evening begins at 6 p.m. While 10 survivor stories will be highlighted, all nominees in attendance will be honored in some fashion.
