The Suffield Woman’s Club (SWC) is accepting applications for the Thea Coburn Scholarship. The applicant should be a resident of Suffield or a graduate of the Agri-Science Center in Suffield and must have completed at least one year of higher education. If you have received this scholarship previously you may apply again. SWC also encourages adults to apply who are returning to school to complete their education after a break to work/raise children. The scholarship is open to men and women.

Thea Coburn was involved in local government and co-founded a local chapter of the League of Women Voters. She became a correspondent for the Hartford Times and wrote a daily column for 19 years. Thea served on the Suffield Land Commission for 20 years and was a founding member of the Suffield Land Conservancy serving on its Board for many years. In 2002, she was presented the Department of Environmental Protection’s GreenCircle Award for promoting conservation and preservation of critical plant or animal habitats.  Thea was a member of the SWC for 63 years.
