Are You Grieving the Loss of a Loved One? SCA’s Bereavement Support Group Can Help:

The group will meet at SCA located at 450 South Street, Suffield on Friday’s from 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. starting on April 17 and ending on May 22. The program is offered at no cost and refreshments are provided. Registration is required. Please call Linda Huff at 860-500-4060 to register. Call SCA for more information, 860-668-1986.

You’re invited to The Memory Café – For those with early to moderate cognitive loss, their friends and family. Come for fun, company and conversation. The Café will be open two times a month! On the second Wednesday of the month, the Social Support Group will meet at the Suffield Senior Center from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

On the Last Tuesday of the month, come to the Clinical Support Group which meets at SCA – 450 South Street, Suffield from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Topics vary monthly and will include the following, Coping with Loss and Grief, Dealing with Stigma, The Use of Mindfulness & Meditation, Maximizing Sense of Control, Coping Strategies, Identifying Supports/Respite…and more! Dementia Care Giver Support Group: – Build a support system and meet with others who understand. The group meets the last Tuesday of each month at the Suffield Senior Center, 145 Bridge Street, Suffield at 11 a.m. The next meeting is Tuesday, April 28. Suffield residency is not required. The group is led by a trained Alzheimer’s Association facilitator, Nicole Matson of Home Helpers of Central CT. Call SCA at 860-668-1986 for more info.

April Meeting of the Parkinson’s Peer Support Group: The group’s goal is to share ideas and resources in the managements and treatment of Parkinson’s disorder. The next meeting is April 13 from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Caregivers are welcome and encouraged to attend. Lunch is provided so please RSVP if you plan to attend. Call Janet at SCA – 860-668-1986.

James F. Coggins, Jr. Community Service Award- Open to Applicants!:

In memory of our late volunteer and Board Member, James F. Coggins, Jr., SCA offers a $1,000 award to a graduating Suffield high school senior who demonstrates selflessness, generosity and concern for the community through their volunteer activities. Applicants are required to submit a 500-word essay supporting their selection to SCA at 450 South Street, Suffield 06078 or email to janetf@suffieldcommunityaid.org. The deadline to apply is midnight on Monday, May 11.

Jane Purtill Fuller Scholarship for Nursing or Social Service Candidates:

To recognize the many contributions of our past employee and long-time supporter of Suffield Community Aid, the Board of Directors dedicates an annual needs-based scholarship in memory of Jane Purtill Fuller. This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating Suffield high-school senior pursuing a nursing or social service field of study. Applicants wishing to apply are encouraged to fill out the common application at the Suffield High School or call SCA at 860-668-1986. The application deadline is May 11.

Having Trouble Affording Summer Camp for your Children? SCA offers funding to subsidize participation for eligible Suffield children and youth attending Suffield Park & Rec. and other camp programs. Call SCA -860-668-1986.

Do You Have Trouble Shopping and Preparing Meals? Meals-on-Wheels Might be an Option for You!:

Qualified homebound seniors, age 60 and over, living in Suffield can receive healthy, hot lunches delivered right to their door by trained & vetted Suffield volunteers. Meals are balanced, nutritious and diet specific. A $2.50 donation per meal is suggested by CRT, but no one is denied a meal if unable to pay.

SCA Seeks Residents for Priority Emergency Response List:

SCA is updating its list of residents in the community who would benefit from a check-up call during a town or state-wide emergency. Residents who use oxygen or need electricity for medical equipment are strongly encouraged to call. If you or someone you know would like to be included on this list, please contact SCA.
