As part of our new ongoing “Books & Beyond Series”, Kent Memorial Library is delighted to announce a book discussion with award winning author Phan Qué Mai Nguyen on Wednesday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m. via Zoom.

Que Mai’s newest book, and first novel in English The Mountains Sing is a New York Times Editor’s Choice award and was voted a best new historical fiction novel by Goodreads’ users.

The book takes place in Vietnam and tells an enveloping, multigenerational tale of the Tran family. Tran Dieu was forced to flee her family farm with her six children during the Land Reform in the 1950’s. Years later in Hanoi, her granddaughter, Huong comes of age as her parents and uncles head off to fight in the Vietnam War that will tear apart not just her beloved country but her family. The book is tragic, courageous, beautiful and hopeful all in one.

Que Mai is a Vietnamese poet, author, journalist and writing teacher. She will be talking to us about her book all the way from Jakarta, Indonesia where she currently resides. We will also be raffling off two signed copies of The Mountains Sing.

Just as a reminder our April author visit will be with Alka Joshi, the author of The Henna Artist.

Thursday, April 15 at 7 p.m. via Zoom.

AND mark your calendars for these great writers to come:

Thursday, June 10 we will be hosting Ashley Audrain, the author of the psychological thriller, The Push.
