Adam Rearick (on the right), a 1997 SHS graduate, just retired as a Major from the Air Force after 22 years of service. This photo was taken on Adam’s LFA (Last Field Alert) as a Minuteman III Nuclear Launch Officer at Malmstrom Air Force Base Montana Echo Launch Control Facility in the 10th Missile Squadron. This was the 196th and final time that Adam pulled a 24-hour shift ready to launch 150 Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICMs) with his crew partner. They sat in the capsule approximately 150 feet underground. Not something Adam ever thought he’d be doing as a high school student, but there have been silent sentinels sitting on the prairies of the US for the last 60 years and a kid from Suffield got to be part of it.
