Second Chance Shop Seeking Volunteers

There is always a wide variety of clothing to purchase at the thrift shop.

Following COVID guidelines, our all-volunteer Second Chance Shop reduced weekly hours from 41 to 12 – three partial days – starting last June. Still, we managed to pay expenses and provide our customary annual donation – 100% of our profits – to The Village for Families and Children in Hartford.

We’re most thankful for the patronage and donations of gently used clothing and collectibles from residents of Suffield and surrounding towns. We’re also grateful for our hard-working volunteers who have worn masks and social-distanced to keep us open.

Currently, we’re seeking volunteers to:

• Tend to customers

• Prepare social media posts and other marketing duties

• Sort donations

• Price and stock merchandise

A minimum two-hour commitment per month is required.

We attribute much of our success to careful sorting of donations. We don’t accept torn, stained and worn-out clothes, nor electrical appliances.

Currently our thrift boutique is open Monday, Thursday, and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. when we also accept donations. As more volunteers sign up, we’ll increase our hours and days open.

If you’re interested in volunteering, email us at Sec ondChanceShopSuffield@thevillage.org or phone us at 860-668-2841.
