The Suffield Parks and Rec. department is excited to announce that the Summer 5K Series at Bruce Park will be back in 2021. This year will feature a new and improved 5-kilometer course, and races will be every Monday at 6 p.m. from June 28 through July 26. The small entry fee of $5 per race will fit this year’s overall theme of “5-5-5”; five races of five kilometers for five dollars each.

The Summer 5K Series got off to a great start in 2019, but understandably had to be suspended last year. Most local runners haven’t gotten a chance to race in the past 15 months. This year, the goal is to reignite their love for racing and, more importantly, get people involved with the community again, because a lot of people have not been able to see each other over the past year.

All proceeds from the race series will benefit the Suffield Community Aid, a local organization which has fortified the community throughout the pandemic and continues to do great work helping Suffield residents in need. Janet Frechette, Executive Director of the SCA, said “Although operating throughout the pandemic has presented its unique challenges, there is so much to be grateful for. So many folks have stepped up to do what they can to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. I am grateful to the Suffield Park and Recreation Department and race director Charles Brydges for finding safe and creative ways to entice people to stay active and have fun – all while supporting Suffield Community Aid’s mission of helping out residents in need.”

This year will also feature more race amenities, like mile markers and a finish line arch. Please consider coming out to support a great cause!
