Retired Gunnery Sergeant Frederick “Fritz” King

Frederick King or Fritz, as he likes to be called, is a retired gunnery sergeant of the United States Marine Corp. He and his family moved to Suffield in 2012. His wife, Denise (Roy) King is from Suffield, and most of her family still lives here. They have two adult children. Their daughter is an athletic trainer and is married to a Coventry police officer. Their son just finished four years in the Marine Corps and is starting the next chapter of his life.

Fritz is a member of Suffield’s VFW Post (Landry-Sic 9544). During the last Veterans Day celebration, he heard First Selectman Melissa Mack state that there were over 600 veterans in Suffield. With the help of Lisa Trace, he identified and sent letters to 483 veterans identifying himself and requesting an interview. He wants to capture their history before it gets lost. He plans to continue his project while performing the duties as Municipal Veterans Service Representative.

We invite all veterans to meet Fritz on Saturday, June 5 for coffee between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. at the Senior Center. Please call 860-668-8830 to let us know you are coming!
