Suffield’s Board of Selectmen announces the appointment of Lisa Trase as town assessor. Trase served as deputy assessor since May of 2016 following her tenure as executive assistant to former First Selectman Edward McAnaney from 2013 to 2016. “It gives me great pride to announce such a deserving appointment,” said Suffield First Selectwoman Melissa M. Mack, “I had the pleasure of working directly with Lisa when I first assumed office and from day one, Lisa represented the best of Suffield’s public servants – hard-working, knowledgeable and committed to the town and excellence. I was not at all surprised when Lisa achieved the highest score of any candidate in the last seven years on the certification exam. The Town of Suffield is truly lucky to have her as our assessor.”

Connecticut General Statutes outline the position’s responsibilities relating to assessment of real and personal property on behalf of the town. To receive certification, the Certified Connecticut Municipal Assessor (CCMA) mandates a passing grade from each of the five (5) required classes, which include the topics of administration, appraisal, valuation and revaluation. Candidates must complete three (3) years of work experience in an Assessor’s office to qualify to sit for the comprehensive exam, which is offered only once per year. As Mack noted, Trase successfully passed the exam in October of 2019, resulting in a Certified Connecticut Municipal Assessor 1 designation, and is able to perform all duties as outlined by statute. Her four-year term began July 1st. Assessors must be recertified every five years and complete at least 50 hours of approved continuing education.

“While I’m pleased by this certification and appointment, I’m already looking forward to obtaining the next assessor level, CCMA II” said Trase. CCMA II identifies professional assessors with advanced understanding of valuation issues and techniques used within the assessment field. Having successfully completed the required coursework, Income Approach to Value Class, Trase will take the exam in October of 2021.
