The Broadleaf Gift shop has opened at 1150 South Street (Route 75).

Suffield has another great addition to the already wonderful businesses we have in our town. A gift store called Broadleaf Gift opened in September. There will be a small reception on Saturday October 16 at 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. with some drinks and snacks outside under an awning and the opportunity for people to come in and browse. Chances are you’ll find just the right gift for that person (adult, adolescent and /or child) or you may even find something for yourself that you didn’t know you wanted. The shop is located at 1150 South Street (Route 75).

Michelle Girard is the owner and a Suffield resident; she is also a photographer. All the items are personally chosen by her for their uniqueness and the inspiration they arouse. Everything purchased in the shop supports local makers around New England. She also has included in the shop’s decor an old Singer sewing table that her mother refinished and a wood crate that her grandfather made. All the tables are custom made, with bases constructed by a local welder, and photographs of around town taken by Michelle are hanging on the walls.

The website is broaleaf.com, but you will find only a small sample of what is actually in the store. The gift shop has a kind of farmhouse modern feel to it. Large glass windows surround the shop, allowing the day to stream in, making the space feel very relaxing.

Some of the products include pottery (Red Chair Studio’s Christine in Rhode Island) inspired by cloud designs, jewelry (Aquinnah in Connecticut) inspired by nature and the ocean, and Pyrrha, another Connecticut maker. Each piece has a different meaning to inspire the wearer. There are other New England makers whose products include teas, floral and infused honey, maple syrup, infused syrups, bath bomb, fragrances, stationery, beautiful bird houses, a whole section of children’s products and much more. You just keep finding so many beautiful, inspiring and thoughtful items as you move about the store looking on the tables and the shelves. It definitely is a place you will keep coming back to.

Please continue to support our local businesses.
