Suffield VFW Landry-Sic Post 9544 held their monthly First Saturday Vets Breakfast on November 5, and two things happened that were not typical. One was a formal U. S. flag ceremony by almost a dozen Scouts from Suffield Troop 260 and 262, coached by Krystal Holmes, who is one of the scoutmasters of the coed troop.

Bikers of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Club head out for their various destinations after enjoying their First Saturday Vets Breakfast at the Suffield VFW on November 5. The CVMC is a non-profit organization that supports needful individual veterans as well as other groups that provide such help.

But the other event was a major surprise. About 40 bikers from the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Club wheeled in for the breakfast, gathering here from various locations in the local region. They came to enjoy the meal, of course, but Suffield Veterans Representative Fritz King, who, together with First Selectman Colin Moll, support the work and expense of these free breakfasts, was surprised by the number of breakfasts needed that morning. And he was even more surprised when the bikers’ club presented a donation of $500. The visitors were evidently impressed with the support the Suffield post provides to local and other veterans, along with its ongoing efforts to rejuvenate its headquarters building.
