First Church has been blessed to welcome many new faces and families this past year! Wherever you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here. Come as you are, for this is God’s house—a house of prayer for all people, and God welcomes each one who comes. First Church welcomes all new attendees, and those who have attended many years, to join us for worship for 1 minute, 1 Sunday, 1 month, 1 year…whatever calls to you!

Those interested in becoming members of First Church are encouraged to contact us and express this interest. Church membership is taking the leap of belonging. In the covenant of membership, a person and the congregation promise one another to be in relationship with God and with one another. You join a journey in progress of people who are also trying to figure out how to live in the model of Jesus. In the thousand small tasks of being a community, to the decisions about community goals or how to spend money, you’ll practice together being Christian, figuring it out together as you go along.

If you are interested in becoming a new member of First Church please let us know. Information on church membership, mission work, events, and much more is available to anyone, and offer opportunities to ask questions on what it means to be a part of First Church, Suffield.

The Holy season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 22 through Easter Sunday, April 9. Our journey into the Lent Season for 2023 will be through with our theme “Bless The Lent We Actually Have”, based on Kate Bowler’s book Bless the Lives We Actually Have. Join us on February 22 at 7 p.m. with our Ash Wednesday Service. Ash Wednesday is an ancient church practice of preparation for the passion and resurrection of Jesus celebrated in Holy Week and Easter.

Our Blessing Box is located right in front of First Church on High Street and is open to our neighbors and community members to “take what you need; leave what you can”. We encourage our community to donate what they can to the Blessing Box. Please do not donate perishable foods or foods requiring refrigeration.

First Church hosts support groups in our building for their meetings, including Narcotics Anonymous, Families Anonymous, and Alcoholics Anonymous. Contact us for the full list of meeting information and for up-to-date building regulations.

As COVID-19 Suffield community levels fluctuate, we will monitor the CT State community levels Covid Levels map and make weekly recommendations for masking based on the information available.

Masking/community levels for each Sunday Worship will be announced in our Weekly Witness, as well as be marked on our front and back entrances of worship. Masks and hand sanitizer are available to anyone who attends worship, or who may need additional supplies outside of the church. Wearing a mask and social distancing is an act done to protect and show love for the most vulnerable among us. As an open and affirming community, we show compassion for each other by taking steps to look after those most susceptible. Please note: Our 10 a.m. Sunday worship services will also be live streamed on our YouTube channel and are always available on our channel to stream after the service.

Church in-office hours are Tuesdays-Fridays 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Questions, general inquiries or any needs should be directed to office@fcsuffield.org outside of office hours, or by leaving a message at 860-668-7223. Pastoral needs can be sent to senior@fcsuffield.org, or by leaving a voicemail with Rev. Diann through our automated phone system.
