New Eagle Scout Jack Shanks

Jack Shanks from Suffield Scout Troop 260, family, friends, and colleagues from both Troops 260 and 262 all celebrated his Eagle Scout Court of Honor on Tuesday, June 13. During his scouting career he held the positions of Historian and Instructor. As Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, he was second-in-command of the troop.

Jack earned all the Eagle-required Merit Badges plus 10 more.

The Eagle Scout Service Project is the opportunity for a Scout to demonstrate leadership of others while performing a project for the benefit of their community. This is the culmination of the Scout’s leadership training, and it requires a significant effort on his or her part. For his Eagle Scout Service Project, Jack led a team to re-blaze the trails in Stony Brook Park. He also designed an outdoor kiosk including an all-weather map of the park’s trail system. He led his team in the construction and installation of the kiosk.

The night was highlighted by awards and accolades from the Town and the State and was capped off with desserts and refreshments. Jack earned his Eagle Scout rank in August, 2022, but its presentation was delayed. He is currently attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute, majoring in Engineering. His accomplishments reflect great credit upon himself, his family, Troop 260, and society overall.
