Second Baptist Church Program Year Continues

As the program year evolves new opportunities for mission work and spiritual growth continue to present themselves.

Second Baptist has several ongoing missions.

  • We continue to support Shriner’s Hospital by collecting aluminum pull-tabs (from soda cans or other food cans). They are being collected in the clear container on the table in the Welcome Center. Proceeds from the sale of the tabs are used to benefit the patients in many ways. Only ALUMINUM (NON-MAGNETIC) tabs are usable.
  • Over the past two years we have developed a relationship with Springfield Rescue Mission in Springfield, Mass. We recently completed a project supporting their “Give Away Center”. More information on this organization can be found at springfieldrescuemission.org.
  • We recently hosted a session with Dr. Rick Gutierrez, a missionary from South Africa that we began supporting this year. He and his wife focus on Health and Wellness and Economic Development (Training and Building Capacity) projects in that region One project they oversee is to train and equip people living in impoverished and vulnerable communities to grow fruit trees and fruits, vegetables and raise poultry. We look forward to continuing this relationship.
  • Don’t forget to stop by the Common Room the evening of October 31 (Halloween). Congregants will participate in trick-or-treating with children and families strolling Main Street.
  • There are a variety of ways people can increase their Biblical knowledge and strengthen their faith through several spiritual growth opportunities:
  • October 8 – 2nd Hour Sermon Discussion – Common Room – 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Did you have a question about the sermon you want to ask Pastor Justin? What was your takeaway from today’s sermon? Would you like to hear other peoples’ thoughts on the message? Come and have a lively discussion about today’s sermon!
  • October 12 – Contemplative Practices – Parlor – 4:00-5:15 p.m. Contemplation- The act of looking thoughtfully and reflectively at something for a period of time; an act of considering deeply and purposefully. Each month we will spend time reflecting, discovering, and sharing our own unique journey, as we grow collectively toward living more intentionally and spiritually. The initial topic of discussion will be Spiritual Growth.
  • Upcoming: Theology on Tap (ToT) – Three Figs (94 Mountain Road, Suffield) – 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. ToT and similar events are held all over the world by different faith groups and denominations. Most often these events are a chance for folks to meet in an informal setting to discuss current topics centering around religion and theology. In late September the first get-together occurred. Please check the church website (www.secondbaptistsuffield.org) or contact the church office at 860-668-1661 for the next discussion.

Additional information for these and other activities/ opportunities at the church will also be published on secondbaptistsuffield.org as well as our Facebook and Instagram sites.

Want to get to know our Pastor? Rev. Justin regularly contributes to several publications, including the Christian Citizen, Good Faith Media, and Baptist News Global. He also writes and rambles at his blog, blacksheepbaptist.com. His reflections and opinions are his own.
