Gardening, Community and Education are the three active pillars of the Suffield Garden Club (SGC), and this season’s educational programs promise to inform and delight.

Some programs included in the lineup are Native Gardening for Wildlife by Jess McCue of Green Machine (10/2), Amazing Abilities of Birds by Sally Brockett (11/6), Living with Black Bears by Paul Colburn (3/4/24) and Attracting Birds, Bees and Butterflies by Betty Sanders (4/1/24.) Scheduled and pop-up workshops allow for hands-on learning, including flower arranging and wreath making.

Previous workshop participants created lush autumn centerpieces under the guidance of member and designer Jean Matejek.

In addition to workshops, the SGC furthers horticultural education through field trips, Junior Gardeners, and scholarships for graduating high school students continuing their education in the field of horticulture.

The Suffield Garden Club, organized in 1934, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the beautification of Suffield.

Meetings are held on the first Monday of the month, and most educational programs are open to the public for a modest fee.
