Do you know someone who knows someone? We are looking for YOU! If you know someone from Suffield who served our nation in active military service sometime between September 11, 2001 and August 31, 2021 please pass this on. We would like to hear from those veterans so that we can honor them in Veterans Park as part of the Expansion Project to be completed later this year.

We have completed the design of the Global War on Terror Memorial; have secured approval from town officials and will soon need a complete list of names for the engraver.

Please help us spread the word through your circle of family and friends who may know someone that entered active military service from Suffield. We want everyone who qualifies to be properly honored. That person may have moved from town but because they served our nation, and were from Suffield when they entered active duty, they deserve to be included.

To qualify for the new memorial the following criteria has been established:

  • Men and women whose principal address was the Town of Suffield when they entered federal active duty.
  • Service branches include Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Air Force and Space Force.
  • Service must have been other than dishonorable.
  • Period of active service must include the following time period: Sep 11, 2001 – Aug 31, 2021.

Veterans or next of kin may submit the information using the nomination form available at the Town Clerk’s Office, Suffield Senior Center, VFW or the Kent Memorial Library. You can also download the form at www.SuffieldCT.gov/our-town/veterans. Once completed, please mail the form to Suffield Veterans Memorial Expansion Committee, Suffield Town Hall, 83 Mountain Road, Suffield, CT 06078.

Please include documentation that confirms eligibility such as a DD Form 214, commissioning/enlistment documents or casualty report.

It is suggested that veterans have their DD Form 214 recorded with the Town Clerk’s office and contact the Town Assessor to determine if they are eligible for a tax exemption.
