When you round up your Second Chance Shop purchases of gently used clothing and collectibles through March 16, the extra money will go towards paying for children’s winter clothing. That includes warm hats, coats, scarves and mittens.

You will also get a card instructing you how to enter a drawing to win a $100 gift card to the shop.

A similar round-up promotion at Christmastime went towards buying holiday gifts for children. We are an auxiliary of the Village for Families & Children in Hartford, and they handled the gift purchases with the funds we raised. It was a fun promotion. Local Suffield resident Monica Tarasek won the $100 gift card.

The shop is seeing a pronounced increase in business this fiscal year after recent renovations that included new carpet, LED lighting and painted walls, made possible through a grant from the Amiel and Mary Anne Zak Public Service Fund. We’re a small shop run entirely by 80 volunteers, so we’re grateful for their generosity.

The Second Chance Shop is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
