Summer Hours

Please note that on Saturdays in July and August, Kent Memorial Library will be open 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. We will be open our regular hours during the week. Regular Saturday hours will resume in September. We will be closed on Thursday July 4.

Kent Memorial Library’s Summer Reading Program

Summer reading officially kicked off at KML on Monday June 17, but it’s not too late to join the fun! Suffield residents stop by to register, participate in one of our fabulous programs, and take a look at a fabulous array of raffle prizes. General Programs

Movies at the Library – KML is showing movies again! Visit our website at www.suffield-library.org/ for more information, including this month’s movie showtimes.

Sound Healing – Wednesday July 10 at 6:30 p.m. – Experience the balancing effects of sound healing using quartz crystal singing bowls. Release the negative energy and tune the body in this unique workshop. Registration is required.

How to Preserve Your Harvest – Wednesday July 17 at 6:30 p.m. – Preserve the taste of the season all year round with our “How to preserve your harvest” workshop. In this class you will learn the ins and outs of pickling, canning, freezing and drying. No registration required.

Ease Into Menopause – Wednesday July 24 at 6:30 p.m. – Join us to learn how to ease the symptoms of perimenopause and menopause with food and lifestyle choices. No registration required.

Adult Summer Reading Wrap Up – Thursday August 1 at 2:00 p.m. – Bingo! Come celebrate with us as we conclude the summer reading program with enjoyable games and delicious food. Winners of the Summer Reading Raffle prizes will be announced live. First come, first served, no registration required.

Rise to the Challenge Book Group – Monday July 8 at 6:30 p.m. and Monday August 12 at 6:30 p.m. – Join us in reading and discussing books that have been challenged and/or banned. July’s title is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and August’s title is 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher. Copies of the books will be available at the library. No registration required.

Fiber Friendly – Wednesday July 10 and 24 and August 7 and 21 at 4 p.m. – Do you enjoy knitting, crocheting, embroidering or engaging in other fiber-related interests? Bring a project you’re working on or start something new! Join us on alternative Wednesdays for conversation, comradery, and fiber artistry. No registration required, marble table seats 10. Open to all ages, under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Tech Time – Wednesday July 3, 17 and 31 and August 14 and 29 1 to 3 p.m. – Do you want help with your laptop, smartphone, or tablet? Don’t let technology frustration hold you back – come to KML Tech Time on alternate Wednesdays! Whether you need help troubleshooting an issue, setting up a new device, or downloading eBooks and eAudiobooks, we’ve got you covered! No registration required. First come, first served.

Wanderlust Club – Wednesday July 31 and August 28 at 2 p.m. – Wanderlust Club – where travel enthusiasts unite to celebrate the thrill of adventure and discovery. Come join your fellow travelers (or people interested in learning about different places) to swap stories, share experiences and travel tips! July’s discussion will be on Greece and August’s discussion will be on France.

Thursday Readers Book Discussion Group – Thursday July 25 and August 29 at 1 p.m. – Get together on the last Thursday of the month with other readers to discuss a book. Books are available at the library. Registration is not required. The July title is The Road to Dalton by Shannon Bowring. The August title is still to be determined.

BJ Smith Book Discussion – Wednesday August 21 at 2 p.m. – We are very excited to be welcoming BJ Smith back for a three-part book discussion series starting August 21. Copies of the books will be available at the library. Registration required.

Kids and Teen Programs

Teen Nutmeg Group – Thursday, July 18 and August 15 at 3:30 p.m. Join us for our KML Nutmeg Book Club! Books will be available to check out at the library. Open to all people in grades 6-12. No registration required.

Elementary Nutmeg Discussion – Tuesday August 20 at 1:30 p.m. – Introducing a nutmeg book discussion for kids grades K-3! We will be reading “The Sweetest Scoop: Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Revolution” by Lisa Robinson….and there will be some real Ben & Jerry’s to enjoy too! Registration is required.

Adventure Story Time – Tuesday July 2 at 10:30 a.m. – Pack your bags and your imagination and join Miss Wendy for an Adventure Story Time! Stories, crafts, and songs for ages 3-6. Registration is required.

Rhyme Time – Fridays July 5, 12, 19, 26 & August 2, 9, 23, 30 at 10:30 a.m. – Bring your singing voice on Fridays! We sing, dance, blow bubbles — and have fun! Drop in; no registration required.

Celebrate Sylvester Graham’s Birthday! – Friday July 5 – Did you know that Sylvester Graham, inventor of the Graham cracker, was born in Suffield? To celebrate his birthday, we’ll be giving away snacks at the library! Drop by while supplies last. No registration required.

Hula Hoop Class for Kids – Tuesday July 9, 3 p.m. – Hula hoop class for kids! We will learn 8-10 hula hoop tricks and combinations while incorporating games and activities that will challenge them mentally and physically while simultaneously providing a fun and creative outlet. Ages 7-11. Space is limited; registration required.

Paper Airplanes – Wednesday July 10 10:30 a.m. – Do you love airplanes? Do you dream of flying? Join us for a fun afternoon making paper airplanes! We’ll try three different airplane designs and then take them outside to test them. (In the event of rain, we’ll test them inside.) Which design will fly the farthest? Which design will do fancy tricks? Sign up to find out! Ages 6-12. Space is limited; registration is required.

Movie: Migration – Wednesday July 10 at 2 p.m. – A family of ducks try to convince their overprotective father to go on the vacation of a lifetime. Rated PG; 1 hour 23 min. No registration required. The auditorium seats 45.

Lego Building: Tallest Tower Challenge – Tuesday July 16 at 3 p.m. – Do you have what it takes to build the tallest Lego tower? Join us for a LEGO building competition! Whoever builds the tallest (yet sturdiest!) building with the supplied Legos wins a prize! Baseplates and LEGOS will be provided. Please do not bring pieces from home. Building partners are allowed but there’s only one prize, so winners will have to share. Ages 6-12. Space is limited; registration is required.

Kids Craft Hour: Paint Wind Chimes – Wednesday July 17 at 10:30 a.m. – For kids ages 7 – 11. We’ll be using acrylic paints and other messy things, so dress accordingly! Space is limited, registration required.

Solve the KML Kids room mystery! – Monday July 22 through 27 – There’s a mystery in the KML Kids’ room and it’s up to you to solve it! Visit the library any time during our regular hours, investigate the clues, and solve the mystery! Participants who submit a solution will be entered into a raffle for a copy of Gamewright’s “Outfoxed” board game. Recommended Ages 5+

Slimeapalooza! – Wednesday July 31 at 1:30 p.m. – Roll up your sleeves and get busy making slime! We’ll have all the ingredients for fun. Open to grades K – 12. Registration is required.

The Secret Lives of Owls – Wednesday August 7 at 10:30 a.m. – Owls have always been surrounded by an air of mystery, probably because most are nocturnal and not easily spotted in the wild. This is your chance to get close to a Northern Saw-Whet Owl, an Eastern Screech Owl, a Barred Owl, a Barn Owl, and a Great-Horned Owl! All ages. No registration required. This program will be at the Second Baptist Church. at 100 North Main Street.
