Why Join Cub Scouts?

Free Rocket! But we’ll talk about that at the end. Cub Scouts is an amazing place for your scout and family to have a blast and enjoy the outdoors. Making new friends, developing social skills, and having fun in a family friendly environment is what we’re all about. Maybe it is visiting Blossoming Acres for a tour, or a trolley ride in the snow. Sometimes it’s spending the night aboard a battleship, a baseball game, or a night under the stars at Sturbridge village. We’re always having fun.

Cub Scouts from Pack 266 had an amazing summer this year at Camp Mattatuck in Plymouth, Conn. Camp Mattatuck has been operated by Scouting America since 1939 and serves thousands of Scouts annually. Scouts got to participate in archery, bb guns, nature hikes, RC cars, swimming and a bouncing water attraction called ‘the blob’, which launched Scouts into the lake.

Along with Cub Scout Pack 266 (ages 5-10), in camp were Scout BSA Troops 260, 66 and 262 (ages 11-17) as well as Venturing BSA Crew 261 (ages 14-20). Older scouts worked on completing their merit badges for rank advancement, including classes like birding, citizenship in the world, environmental science, game design, personal fitness, pioneering and welding.

The annual Cub Scout meetings run September – June, typically on the first and third Mondays of the month. Our first meeting of the year is September 9, starting at 6:00 p.m. at the West Suffield Congregational Church, located at 1408 Mountain Road. Visit us at Suffield on the Green for the best poutine south of the Canadian border. Enjoy your fries smothered in gravy and cheese curds while you sign up. We will also be at the McAlister and Spaulding open houses; in partnership with the PTO, the Scouts will be providing gaga ball pits to the babysitting night. Make sure you bring your child to open house this year for the fun. Lastly, any new Scout who joins Cub Scout Pack 266 this year will receive a free rocket to assemble with their family and launch at our October party. The fun never stops.
