This year’s Suffield on the Green felt like your typical fall-weathered fair. The temperature was in the 70s for both days and sunny, except when the clouds rolled in later in the afternoon, and we had to roll up the tents a little early. However, the crowds, crafters, local charities and food booths were resilient!!! The 53rd Suffield on the Green continued to bring smiles, give fairgoers a chance to meet with family and friends, as well as the opportunity to purchase unique items and enjoy some of the BEST food around!
Suffield on the Green, brought to you by the Suffield Knights of Columbus and the Suffield Rotary Club, would like to give KUDOS to all the children, women and men who worked on the Green to make this fair a pleasure to attend. The response from some of our fair participants was that this was a very successful fair for them this year! – THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your tireless effort. The fairgoers enjoyed the delicious kettlecorn, poutine, sausage w/peppers and onions, Polish platters, baked potatoes, fried dough, pulled-pork and of course, the Rotary Chicken BBQ – are YOU looking forward to next year already??
Walking the Green, fairgoers savored the opportunity to visit numerous booths filled with handmade arts & crafts plus local organizations sharing their information, services and food. There were also fun activities for “children-of-ALL-ages” such as: volleyball games, dunk tank, corn hole, the Boy Scouts’ rope-walk, demonstrations by the talented Aces High Robotics Club, the inflatable Bounce House and obstacle course, Girls Scout art activities and MORE!
For the first time in many years, we had a FREE train ride for children, which was co-sponsored by Sacred Heart Church and the Suffield Knights of Columbus. It was a HUGE success and loved by the children who had an opportunity to ride on the train! We look forward to bringing this back next year.
The Canine Contest, a highly anticipated and much-loved annual event, was well-attended as always. Dogs of all breeds and sizes came out to schmooze the Canine Contest judges to win in one of the categories such as: “Wildest Wag”, “Dressed to Impress”, “Cutest Smile” and “We Like Big Mutts”, etc. As they strutted the runway, the onlookers cheered on the participating pooches with many oohs and aahs. There were toys and other fun prizes for all the contestants and even a few extras to bring home for their doggie friends.
For the third year in a row, Roaring Acres Alpacas of Suffield created a “Petting Zoo” which was loved by both children and adults alike!
The SOTG Committee would like to give special recognition to all our community volunteers and organizations who helped make this event a success. We cannot do it without you – Thank You – Suffield Police Dept., Fire Dept., Public Works Dept., Explorers, Rotary Club, Knights of Columbus, former Friends of Suffield members and the Town of Suffield!
Due to sponsors and the monies generated by SOTG rental spaces during the event, the Suffield Knights of Columbus & Suffield Rotary International were able to give grants to the following organizations: Suffield Police Explorers & The Suffield Robotics Club.
The Big Top is taken down, crafters have left and the food booths are gone. Planning for the SOTG 2025 now begins. If you would like to participate next year, please reach out to Richard Sych, Brian Kruczek, Jiby John or Gary Guminiak from the Suffield Knights of Columbus, or Gayle Demko and Jack Muska, from the Suffield Rotary Club. Thanks to the partnership of both organizations, Suffield can continue to enjoy this long-standing town tradition. See you in 2025!
