Fiber Friendly – Wednesdays, October 16 and 30 at 4 p.m.
Do you enjoy knitting, crocheting, embroidering, or engaging in other fiber-related interests? Bring a project you’re working on or start something new! Join us on alternate Wednesdays for conversation, camaraderie and fiber artistry. No registration required; marble table seats 10. Open to all ages; people under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Thursday Readers Book Discussion Group – Thursday, October 31 at 1 p.m.
Get together on the last Thursday of the month with other readers to discuss a book. Books are available at the library. Registration is not required. The October title will be The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters.

Tech Time – Every Wednesday 1-3 p.m.
Do you want help with your laptop, smartphone, or tablet? Don’t let technology frustration hold you back – come to KML Tech Time on alternate Wednesdays! Whether you need help troubleshooting an issue, setting up a new device, or downloading eBooks and eAudiobooks, we’ve got you covered!
No registration required. First come, first served.

Wanderlust Club – Wednesday October 30 at 2 p.m.
October will be all about Italy! Wanderlust Club – where travel enthusiasts unite to celebrate the thrill of adventure and discovery. Come join your fellow travelers (or people interested in learning about different places) to swap stories, share experiences and travel tips! September 25 at 2 p.m. at Kent Memorial Library

Rise to the challenge book discussion – Monday, October 7 at 6:30 p.m.
A book group for adults to read and discuss books that have been challenged and/or banned. Copies of the book will be available at the library. No registration required. Please be aware that this group discusses books which may include sensitive topics. The October title is Flamer by Mike Curato.

BJ Smith Book Discussion – Wednesday October 23 at 2 p.m.
Don’t miss out on another wonderful book discussion series led by B.J. Smith at Kent Memorial Library. Join us for a three-part series of books that give us a view of Native American culture in contemporary times. The three-part series will be in three different genres: A collection of short stories, a mystery and a novel.

Holiday Decoration Collection and Exchange – Beginning September 30
We will accept donations for our Holiday Decoration exchange between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. September 30 – October 4. Decorations for all holidays accepted. No Christmas trees please. We will collect decorations Monday through Friday, and the exchange will take place Saturday October 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Diwali Festival of Lights – October 30 at 6:30 p.m.
Join us for a Diwali celebration! Dancing, food and stories! Check our website and socials as it gets closer for more details.

Kids and Teens Programs

Rhyme Time – Fridays, October 4, 11, 18 & 25
Bring your singing voice on Fridays! We sing, dance, blow bubbles — and have fun!
Drop in; no registration required. Recommended ages 0-5.

Teen Nutmeg Book Club – Thursday, October 17 at 3:30 p.m.
Join us for our KML Nutmeg Book Club! Books will be available to check out at the library. Open to all people in grades 5-12. No registration required.

Smokey Bear Reading Challenge Kickoff – Saturday, September 28 to November 23
Ages 4-10 (but everyone is welcome)
Smokey Bear has encouraged wildfire prevention for 80 years! To celebrate, libraries have collaborated with the USDA Forest Service to celebrate with the Smokey Bear Reading Challenge. We’ll get participants started by taking the Smokey Bear Pledge, reading a book and completing a few activities to earn badges.

Kids’ Scary Story Writing Contest – Submissions Accepted Monday, September 23 through Saturday October 12
Open to Authors in Grades 1-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12
The Scary Story Contest returns! We’re looking for the scariest, most imaginative tales. This year, we’ve expanded our age groups to include all students from Grades 1 through 12. Dino-rama Competition – Sign Up (and Dino Distribution) begins Monday, October 28
Submissions Accepted Friday, November 1 through Saturday, November 16

To celebrate Dino-vember this year, we invite you to participate in our Dino-rama competition. We’ll provide entrants with a selection of random dinosaur figures for the creation of a diorama; no other materials will be provided. See our website and socials for further details.

Elementary Nutmeg Book Discussion – Anglerfish: The Seadevil of the Deep – Tuesday, October 22 at 2 p.m.
Grades K – 3. Space is limited; registration is required.
Join us for our next meeting of our Elementary Nutmeg Book Discussion where we’ll read Anglerfish: The Seadevil of the Deep by Elaine Alexander! This meeting will include a craft and an experiment!

Pumpkin Hydrodipping for Teens – Saturday, October 19 at 1 p.m.
We will be hydro-dipping pumpkins for Halloween. All materials are provided. If we get rain, we will reschedule to the next Saturday, October 26. Ages 12 & up, registration is required.

Monster Makeup – Tuesday, October 8 at 7 p.m.
Decimated Designs will be here to teach you how to do awesome special effects makeup for Halloween. Grades 6 and up, registration is required.
