Please Support SCA’s Annual Appeal Campaign for Suffield Residents: you can donate through our webpage, too! Our annual appeal letter was recently mailed to all residents in town. Suffield Community Aid needs your help in promoting our mission on behalf of families – right here in Suffield – requiring support in their time of need. Read more about what we do and the impact your past donations have made by going to www.suffieldcommunityaid.org.

SCA Volunteer Shirley Grandahl made holiday decorations for our Meals on Wheels Participants. They really brightened people’s day. Thank you, Shirley!

What’s Happening at SCA this Month?

Our Food Bank is Low: We have been busy supporting many Suffield residents experiencing food insecurity and our shelves show it! We could use donations of almost any kind but coffee, canned chicken or meat, pasta sauce, snacks, shampoo, and conditioner are particularly appreciated. We can take donations 8-4 Monday-Friday in our lobby. If you need to donate outside of those times feel free to put it directly in our Grab and Go Pantry for our weekend visitors.

Increasing subsidized meals at the Senior Center: SCA is now sponsoring a third day of meals for income eligible seniors at the Senior Center. The food is amazing, and the company is even better. Please reach out to SCA at 860-668-1986 to see if you are eligible.

Some Ongoing Program and Updates:

Medicare Open Enrollment Ends December 7th: – Thinking about changing plans? Are you confused about your Medicare options? Perhaps you are turning 65 soon… Meet with a trained CHOICES Medicare counselor to explore what’s best for you. Volunteers provide unbiased telephone assistance. Call 860-668-1986 to schedule a consultation.

SCA Seeks Residents for Priority Emergency Response List:  We are updating our list of residents who would benefit from a check-up call during a town or state-wide emergency. Residents who use oxygen, or need electricity for medical equipment, are strongly encouraged to call. Names, addresses, medical information, and family contact information will be included for confidential use in the event of an emergency as declared by the First Selectman. If you or someone you know would like to be included on this list, please contact SCA at 860-668-1986.

SCA’s Fundraiser at the Polls was a Great Success- Thank you Suffield!: There was such a terrific turnout at the polls for Election Day, and thanks to the generosity of our community, almost $600 was raised to help support our Food Pantry. A huge thank you as well to the SHS Interact Club, who volunteered to oversee SCA’s table to collect non-perishables and monetary donations. Thank you to all!

Stay Warm This Winter! – We Are Taking Applications for the CT Energy Assistance Program: These government programs help offset winter heating costs for financially eligible households so that their health is not jeopardized by their inability to afford critical heat. Please contact SCA to apply at 860-668-1986. More information on eligibility is available at www.ct.gov/staywarm.
