The Suffield Samaritans made another trip to our new friends in Tennessee this past December 27 – 30. This time we delivered two camper trailers donated by Longview RV in East Windsor. The campers were pulled by two trucks donated by Enterprise Truck Rental in East Granby. We filled the campers with coats, clothing, hats, gloves, warm socks, kitchen items, quilts, gifts, gift cards and more. We collected over $6,000 in cash and gift cards. The Suffield Woman’s Club donated $3,000 in gift cards and the members of VFW Post 9544 donated cash for travel expenses and the use of their parking lot to clean and ready the campers for delivery. Patients and friends of Turning Point Wellness Center donated over $1,700 in cash, gift cards, coats and more. Linda and Mark Petrucci and a friend donated over $3,000 in hand and power tools to help a gentleman in Tennessee get back to work after losing his tools after the hurricane and floods.
One camper went to a family of five whose house was knocked off its foundation and had nowhere else to go so they had to stay in a house that is not really fit to live in. The second went to a mom and her young son who struggled through chest-deep water to the next house with a second floor and eventually had to be air-lifted off that home’s roof.
Many gift cards were given to Pastors Mark and Pam Renner to give to whoever was in need. Another donated over $3,000 to replace the heating system in the house of a woman and her five grandchildren.
Whether you are driving a truck and camper to Tennessee, donating tools, giving $5 or $1,000, a coat or socks, YOU are Suffield Samaritans! We are all just people helping people. Thank you ALL!
