Suffield FFA “March Fun into April Travels!!”

It has been a very exciting start to spring for Suffield Regional Agriscience! At the end of February, our chapter hosted its first ever paint night where students and their families signed up for a paint class, held in the Large Animal Facility. On March 14, the 11th and 12th grade students took a field trip to the Aqua Turf, where they got a chance to learn valuable leadership skills and to meet members of other FFA chapters by participating in the “I Am Ag Ed” (IMAGE) Conference facilitated by the Connecticut FFA Association and a recent National FFA Officer.

Also on March 14, the chapter officers stayed at Suffield High to help run the Accepted Students Day. This was an opportunity for the incoming Freshman to get tours of the school, participate in team building activities and get to know what their time at Suffield High school will look like next year. Our chapter traveled on another exciting field trip, this time to the State Capital, on March 19. Members of our chapter officer team participated in the Ag Day at the capital. We got a chance to talk to State Representative Tami Zawistowski, as well as see local Suffield farms such as Hastings Farm.

On March 20, we hosted our annual Bingo Night! There were some amazing prizes, with people travelling far and wide to attend! As if all of this was not exciting enough, baby goat kids were born at Suffield High school! In the early hours of March 26, Twix and Toffee were born. We also had the privilege of hosting the Spaulding School first graders on April 2. High schoolers led the first graders on a tour, teaching them about the animals that we work with, the plants that we grow and the projects that we work on.

We are very excited about our second International Agriscience field trip, this time to Ireland! On April 8, students from Suffield took a flight to Dublin, where they went on walking tours, visited museums and visited Ireland’s farms and famous landmarks.

We are very proud of our accomplishments this spring, and we are excited for the rest of the school year!
