The entire Les Mis ensemble in a rousing rendition of “Do You Hear the People Sing?”
First let it be said that to me Les Mis is not just any old musical, it is one of my favorites. I have seen it on Broadway twice, at the Bushnell, at the Opera House Players production several years ago and even on television. I have been a fan for so long I have a CD of the soundtrack.
It is awe inspiring and an ambitious production to mount, especially for a high school, so color me a little skeptical that the Suffield High School performance would be up to snuff. I am pleased to say that it far exceeded my expectations, and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Bolstered by an outstanding job by the orchestra, and the strong voices of the soloists, especially leads Jean Valjean and Javert, as well as the supporting roles and chorus, the evening was a delight! From the iconic opening number “At the End of the Day” to the end of act one’s “One Day More” to the rousing finale “Do You Hear the People Sing?” the cast was energetic, joyful and spot on. More than one person left the auditorium humming one of the songs. It was a wonderful night, and I thank the entire cast and crew for their hard work. I hope they enjoyed presenting it as much as I enjoyed viewing it!
