Which Scholarships Are a Fit for You?

There are several community organizations that provide scholarships for deserving high school seniors. These scholarships include:

Suffield Community Aid
All five of these are $1,500
James F. Coggins, Jr. Community Service Award.
Jane Purtill Fuller Scholarship for Nursing or Social Service Candidates.
Kathy Ostrowski Memorial Nursing Scholarship.
Suffield Community Aid “Forward Focus” Scholarship.
Meghan Voisine “Kindness Matters” Award.

The Suffield Observer
The Suffield Observer Board of Directors will sponsor a $2,000 scholarship to Suffield residents who are high school seniors and who will be entering an accredited two or four-year institution of higher learning in Fall/September of 2026. The scholarship is in memory of Samuel Fuller, the founder of the paper and Robert O.Y. Warren, a former Chairman of the Board.

The $2,000 scholarship can be applied for by contacting the guidance department at Suffield High School or Suffield Academy, by requesting a form from the Observer office or online at www.thesuffieldobserver.com.

Polish American Scholarships 2026
Polish Heritage Society: There are several college scholarships available to Suffield residents of Polish descent.

Harriet Irsay Scholarship – The American Institute of Polish Culture. Apply online at ampolinstitute.com – $2,000 by June 30, 2026.

Jennie Marconi-Javorski Scholarship – Polish Cultural Club of Greater Hartford. Apply online at polishculturalclub.com – $1,000 by May 1, 2026.

Kamylla and Czeslaw Kaszuba College Scholarship – Polish American Journal Foundation – Apply online at polamjournal.com/PAJF – $1,500 or $500 by August 31, 2026.

ACPC Summer Study Scholarship – American Council for Polish Culture – Apply on-line at polishcultureacpc.org – $2,000 by April 15, 2026.

Wladyslaw Zachariasiewicz Memorial Journalism Scholarship – American Council for Polish Culture – Apply on-line at polishcultureacpc.org – $5,000 by June 30, 2026.

Leonard Skowronski Polish Studies Scholarship – American Council for Polish Culture – Apply on-line at polishcultureacpc.org – $3,000 by April 5, 2026.

The Suffield Players
• Eugene Biggio Memorial Drama Scholarship 2026 -The Biggio Scholarship funds student education in the Dramatic Arts presented by The Suffield Players, Inc. Submission deadline: May 1, 2026.
• Robert Alcorn Memorial Arts Scholarship 2026 – the scholarship makes Arts Education more accessible to deserving students presented by The Suffield Players, Inc. Submission deadline: May 1, 2026.

Suffield Rotary Club Scholarships
Six 2026 Scholarships of $1,000 each. Check with SHS counselors’ office for more details.

The Rotary Club scholarship in memory of Doctor Alfred Stafford is given to a student who exemplifies service to the community.

The Rotary Club scholarship in memory of Ralph “Nick” Mickelson III who personified service and commitment to Suffield.

The Rotary Club scholarship in recognition of the Founders of the Suffield Rotary Club, including Lou Ahrens, is given to a student who is hardworking, reliable and has demonstrated academic growth and improvement; someone who contributes to the quality of life at the school and community.

A Rotary Club scholarship award is given to a student interested in studying in the vocational field.

The Rotary Club scholarship in memory of Warren Packard is given to a student on the basis of not only achievement but service to their school and community.

The Rotary Club scholarship award in memory of Elaine O’Brien, who was committed to her community and was a state representative. She exemplified “Service Above Self”. This award is given to a student who has interest in the medical field, nursing or research.

The Frank and Sheila Beneski Suffield Athletic Hall of Fame Scholarships
Each year since 2009 the Suffield Athletic Hall of Fame has awarded scholarships to student athletes.

The scholarships are named in honor of Frank and Sheila Beneski, who can best be described as the Champions of the Suffield Athletic Hall of Fame.

The criteria to obtain a scholarship is as follows:

• Candidates must be attending Suffield High School, or be a resident of Suffield attending Suffield Academy.
• Candidates must be a graduating senior.
• Candidates should be student athletes who treat people fairly, have the respect of everyone, and display sportsmanship on the playing fields.

Applications for the next recipients are available each year, usually in February – March. High School Seniors who would like to apply should check with their guidance department.

Garden Club
The Garden Club provides one or two scholarships each year to a graduating high school senior based on financial strength and quality of applications. Student applicants must exhibit high academic performance, outstanding leadership in their school community or state and plan to play a significant role in the world of agriculture. This award is distributed by a Suffield High School committee.

The Betty Jean Stroh Scholarship Fund administered by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.
