George Washington and John Adams Visited Suffield

The Suffield Historical Society will meet on Tuesday, April 14 at 7 p.m. in the Second Baptist Church’s Common Room. The Suffield Historical Society’s meetings are always open to the public, and newcomers are most welcome.

Did you know that John Adams stopped in Suffield in 1774 at the Austin Tavern along with the Massachusetts Delegation on the way back from the First Continental Congress? Did you know that George Washington visited Suffield in 1775 on his way to take command of the Continental Army in Cambridge? Come out to the Suffield Historical Society’s April meeting or log onto the Zoom link to learn more about Suffield’s history during the months leading up to the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. American Studies students from Suffield Academy will present the context around these visits as well as each President’s impression of Suffield in 1774 and 1775. The students will also present their collaborations with community partners regarding Suffield and Connecticut’s process to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the founding of the country.

Attend in person or access the following link that will connect you to the Zoom platform on Tuesday, April 14 at 7 p.m.
