Parks & Recreation News – April 2026

Spring into Fun with the Parks and Recreation Department

Spring is an exciting time at the Suffield Parks and Recreation Department, and we’re thrilled to share the programs and events we have planned for our community. Registration for all programs is now open at suffieldrec.com, and there’s something for everyone to enjoy. We are also continuing to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary at many of our events and look forward to kicking off a summer-long celebration of #SummerInSuffield. Our first larger scale 250th event was our The Roaring 20’s Party that was held on Friday, March 6. It was a wonderful evening as the community came together to celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary, Suffield style. Guests of all ages enjoyed music, mock casino-style games with a mock speakeasy along with Bingo and other 1920s activities, creating a night full of energy, creative costumes, and community spirit. A special thank you to our guest card dealers—First Selectman Colin Moll, Sarah Tschannen, Stephan Bastrzycki, and Ryan Brady—and to all the volunteers who helped make the evening a success.

We are especially excited about the next session in our Suffield Business Series, “Create, Shoot, Edit, Post: Practical & Creative Content for Small Businesses,” which happened Monday, March 30, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. This free, hands-on workshop was perfect for small business owners, nonprofit leaders and anyone looking to build their personal brand in 2026. Alyssa Salerno, Media Specialist with The Stephanie Salerno Team at Coldwell Banker Realty, guided participants through creating effective content ideas, shooting photos and videos using a smartphone, editing with easy-to-use tools, and posting with confidence to engage an audience. You didn’t need to have attended the previous workshop to participate — this session stood on its own. Attendees left with practical strategies and a simple content plan they can put into action right away. Light refreshments were provided.

Families won’t want to miss our new Family Fun Day: Spring & Easter Egg-stravaganza on Wednesday, April 1, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Suffield Senior Center. This indoor, town-wide event will feature crafts, games, a community egg hunt and photos with the Easter Bunny, along with pizza, snacks and sweet treats. Since it’s April Fool’s Day, there may even be a few surprises tucked inside the eggs. It’s an affordable and festive way for families to celebrate spring together.

Later in April, creativity takes center stage at our Open Mic Coffee House & Talent Show on Thursday, April 16, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 5:15 p.m.). We invite poets, singers, karaoke stars, magicians, actors, photographers, bands, writers and performers of all kinds to share their talents with the community. Whether you take the stage or come to enjoy the show, it’s always a welcoming evening. Coffee, tea, cocoa, desserts and pizza slices will be available for purchase, making it a great night out for families and friends.

Spring at Suffield Parks and Recreation is packed with opportunities for all ages. We offer sports and fitness programs for adults and children, scenic hikes, the much-anticipated Dancing with the Suffield Stars, and a variety of special events designed to bring the community together. From creative workshops and arts programs to our popular Bowling Buddies Outing Group, there are countless ways to stay active, learn new skills, and connect with others this season. Everyone should give Bucket Golf a try on the Green, Sunday, April 19.

Looking ahead to summer, we have an equally exciting lineup planned, including our popular Summer Camps — Sunrise Day Camp, Adventure Camp, Kids Korner, Morning Munchkins, Sports Camps — as well as fitness programs, Movie Nights, Concerts on the Green, Suffield Night at the Yard Goats, World Cup viewing parties on the Green, a Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest and additional special events. Our programs are designed to keep residents entertained, active and connected while providing diverse, inclusive, and affordable experiences for the entire community.
