Suffield Middle School students recently celebrated an impressive season in the Math Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools (MOEMS) competition, which includes approximately 70,000 students from around the world.
The 6th-grade team participated in the elementary school division of the competition. Led by Suffield Middle School math teacher Mrs. Kristin Karam, the team had an outstanding year in the program’s first season back after a hiatus, placing in the top 30% of teams internationally.
Students recognized for their dedication and participation included Theo Berardy, Kaleena Lacic, Karlee Dudack, Rachel Toskin, and Holden Alicea. Several students also earned international distinction awards for their performance in the competition. These students were Mary Avila, Elina Benton, Vinny Dilorenzo, Harlowe Tomalonis, Jayden Li, Zoe Horazy, Jude Solytys, Srinika Nalla, Spencer Reed, Carson Senecal, and Vir Singhana.
The 7th- and 8th-grade team competed in the middle school division of the competition. Coached by Suffield High School junior Saanvi Nalla and advised by Suffield Middle School science teacher Mrs. Jennifer Plourde, the team also returned to competition after a hiatus and placed in the top 50% of teams internationally.
Team members recognized for their dedication and participation included Kayla Berg, Viktoria Crnkovic, Nolan Forrest, Luke Forsman, Jacob Hopkins, Jacob Lenk, Walker Merritt, Sophia Michalman, Alexandra Nastase, Lillian Roberts, Charles Schuyler, Ayra Singhania, Lucas Smith, and Robert Snyder. Students earning international distinction awards included Kendall Sanderson, Tyler Kuzmenko, Dominic Levasseur, Siddharth Dusety, Elias Vega, and Shaylan Anderson.
Congratulations to all of our Math Olympiads students for their hard work, perseverance, and commitment to challenging themselves through problem-solving and critical thinking! We hope to see this year’s 6th-grade participants continue their Math Olympiads journey by joining the 7th- and 8th-grade team next school year.
