The Suffield Historical Society is pleased to announce that Jason Cromack will be at Academy Hall on Sunday, September 20, to talk about our Native American artifact collection. The hall will be open from 1 to 4 p.m., and he will conduct short discussions every half-hour during that time. Visitors are welcome to bring artifacts and ask questions about them. Academy Hall is free and open to the public.
September 20 will also be the last day to view the “Declaration of Independence & Revolutionary History” exhibit that students in the Suffield Public School system created. The display premiered on June 5 in the Phelps-Hatheway barn and then moved to Academy Hall for the summer. This is a wonderful display of written and visual art that represents what the students learned about this important era in United States history. They made it unique by including people and events specific to Suffield. One of the highlights of the exhibit is the video recording of children of all ages reciting the Declaration of Independence.
The Suffield Historical Society will have a tent at Suffield on the Green on September 12 and 13. Information about old houses in town will be available, and a collection of Suffield-related ephemera will be available for sale. Members will be on hand to answer questions about the Society and discuss volunteer opportunities. The Polish Heritage Society will also be represented at the booth.
The King House & Museum will be open on September 12, but Academy Hall will be closed on the 13.
