The Emergency Aid Association wishes to extend a big thanks to all the residents who donated through the Mail Carriers Food Drive held on May 13. Staff & volunteers were kept busy throughout the day stocking the shelves. We especially want to thank our mail carriers for helping make this drive so successful.

Camp Subsidies Are Available at the Emergency Aid Association

The Emergency Aid Association has funding available to subsidize participation for eligible Suffield children and youth attending Suffield Park & Rec. and other camp programs. For more information, please call the EAA.

Salvation Army Camp Opportunities

Summer camp registration has begun for the Salvation Army Camp CONNRI in beautiful Ashford, CT. The camp is open to children ages 8-12. The youth overnight camp is only $35 for four nights! Call the EAA for specific dates.

Amazing 4-H Camp Opportunity for Eligible Suffield Children

The EAA, in partnership with the Hartford County 4-H Camp, is pleased to offer income- eligible Suffield families with children ages 9 -14, camp opportunities in July. The cost of the weekly overnight camp is $460, but the cost to the family is only $100 per camper! The balance will be subsidized by the Hartford County 4-H and the EAA. Call the EAA for more info. Ellington Regional Housing Rehabilitation Program for SUFFIELD Homeowners

If you are a low or moderate income household, (ex. Family of four may earn up to $65,800) you may be eligible for a deferred payment loan with no interest and no payments as long as you own your home. The loan can be used for roofing, septic, well, plumbing, heating, electrical, handicap accessibility, asbestos/lead abatement, carpentry and other repair work on single and multi-family units up to 4 units.

Call the EAA or call the Ellington Community Development Office directly at (860) 870-3132 on Tuesdays between 9:00 and 4:00 or leave a message with your name and address, download the application on the Town of Ellington’s web site or apply in person on Tuesdays at the Ellington Community Development Office.

Durable Medical Items Available for FREE Loan to Residents

The Emergency Aid Association has many medical items available for long and short-term loan to residents, including; wheelchairs, transport chairs, folding walkers, canes, commodes & shower seats. Adult incontinence supplies are also available at no charge. For more information about this free service, call the EAA at 860-668-1986.

Renters’ Rebate Program for the Elderly & Disabled

What is the Renters’ Rebate Program? It is a program for Connecticut renters (tenants) who are elderly or disabled and whose incomes do not go over certain limits. There is no asset limit. If you qualify, the Renters’ Rebate Program will send you a rebate check. The amount of the rebate check is based on your income, the amount of your rent and the utility bills that you paid in 2016, (excluding telephone and cable). Rebate amounts can range from $50 to $900. Applications must be made between April 1st and October 1, 2017.

You may be eligible if…

You were 65 years of age or older as of 12/31/16; or

Are the surviving spouse of someone who was eligible at the time of his/her death and over 50 years of age; or

If you are permanently and totally disabled and 18 years of age or older;

In addition, you must…

Have lived in Connecticut for any one year period; and

Have rented an apartment, a room, a mobile home, are living in cooperative housing or where property is not owned but is principle domicile by virtue of an oral or written lease; and

Have an income below $35,200/year if you are single or have a combined income below $42,900/year if you are married or in a CT civil union.

There is not an asset limit for this program. There are additional requirements for those that are renting from family members. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call the Emergency Aid Association.

You need to bring:

Copy of Social Security 1099 for 2016, if you need a copy, call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 or go online at ssa.gov

Copies of your electric payments for 2016. If you need help getting this information, call the EAA

Copies of your rental payments for 2016

Copies of all 1099’s for all other income sources

Copy of the front page of income tax, if filed

If disabled, current proof of disability.
