The Suffield High School Athletic Booster Club has chosen Laura Sweeney and Lukas Baker as their May Athletes of the Month. Students are awarded this honor based on their athletic and academic accomplishments, attitudes and leadership skills.

Lukas Baker has been a member of the varsity track and field team for three years. This year, he qualified for the conference championships in all events he participated in and was a part of the 4×400 meter team that broke the school record. Lukas is a hard worker on and off the field as evidenced by his being named the Valedictorian of the Class of 2016 along with being named a Rotary Student of the Month, four year science fair award winner, and member of the National Honor Society and the World Language Honor Society. He was one of the captains of the boys’ track team this year – chosen unanimously by the coaches because of his work ethic and commitment to the team. Lukas plans to study physics in the fall where he will be attending Yale University

Laura Sweeney has had a long and successful career running cross country and track and field. Over the past four years, Laura has qualified to compete at state championships and the state open. A leader by example, Laura has a positive attitude and motivates those around her to do their best. Polite, respectful, hardworking and passionate about her sport, Laura is a great ambassador for the team. Laura plans to attend Simmons College in Boston this fall and would like to pursue a degree in Physical Therapy.
