After the summer Sunday service on August 28, First Baptist Church President Ed Chase, center, tells Howard and Ann Orr about the Reverend Jesse Fowler Smith and his bicycle. Smith, who died in 1962, was a Baptist missionary in Burma in the early 1900s. In Suffield he was revered as a naturalist, a beloved, long-time English teacher at Suffield Academy, and the last full-time pastor at First Baptist. He never owned a car or a driver’s license. His bicycle is among the collections of the Suffield Historical Society.
