Javier Serrano of Hartford is Barack Obama in the Suffield Middle School sixth grade Wax Museum event on January 31. The second half of the sixth grade did their presentations on February 7.

Also Steve Jobs, Nicholas Tesla, Malala Yusafzai, Florence Nightingale, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Queen Rania of Jordon. Did you know Jordon was a monarchy? That wasn’t all that one could learn at Suffield Middle School on January 31, when the Blue Team sixth graders played their parts as “wax museum” figures in the Middle School gym. Abraham Lincoln wasn’t ignored, nor was Misty Copeland, Amelia Earhart, and – of course – Donald Trump, along with many other notables. The White Team wax museum was held on February 7.

The students studied the achievements and personalities of their chosen characters, dressed in appropriate garb, and stood at a table with pictures and texts on a display board. When visitors tapped on the table, the students recited a first person story about their chosen character. These recitations were impressive, and the costumes were great.

On their off week, the students not performing attended the other team’s wax museum, interviewed the characters, and filled out comment sheets on clipboards. Some days later Marcus Gibbs of the Blue Team, who had offered a well costumed narration and informative display about Frederick Douglas, explained that the clipboard notes were to help the students evaluate and report how their own presentation compared, in several factors, with the presenters they interviewed.
