Last week concluded the internship of our fall 2017 college intern, Nate Marshall, at the Suffield Police Department. Nate, a student at Westfield State University, will be graduating in May 2018 with a B.S. in Criminal Justice.

Nate came to the Suffield Police Department this past September. Nate spent time learning about the various functions of a police department such as Patrol, Dispatch, K9, School Resource Officer, and Administrative. He also became familiarized with current policing best practices and contemporary concepts such as the 2015 President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing, use of force, officer peer support, juvenile diversion, and mental health diversion.

Among the several projects that Nate completed during his internship, he was significantly instrumental in drafting an updated department policy regarding the Town of Suffield Juvenile Review Board.

On Thursday, December 14, Police Chief Richard D. Brown presented Nate with a parting gift of a Suffield Police Challenge Coin for his work and commitment. Chief Brown reiterated to Nate that this was not a goodbye but simply “until we meet again.”
