Jared Lobo

Congratulations to Jared Lobo, who was selected as the Rotary Student of the Month for February 2019. 

Jared is a senior at Suffield High who has been very involved in extra-curricular activities. Jared is a founding member and secretary of the Future Business Leaders of America chapter at SHS. Jared is the Treasurer of the Interact Club and has been involved in activities such as Habitat for Humanity, Connecticut River Cleanup and Daze for Girls, where they collected cutting/sewing products to donate to Africa. Jared is a three-year varsity basketball and lacrosse starter and has been the captain of both of these teams for the past two years. 

Jared has been a member of the CIAC Sportsmanship Council in both 2017 and 2018. He is also a member of the Student Senate, where he has helped to organize Spirit Week. In 2017 and 2018, Jared was the Manager of the Varsity Girls Soccer Team and he also played JV soccer in his freshman and sophomore years.

Jared has volunteered for the American Cancer Society, where he took part in Race for the Cure, Stomp Out Cancer, Kyla 5K, and Race in the Park in New Britain. He has been part of the Wingman Program, where he helped teach middle school students about important character traits to change the climate/culture in creating strong communities. In addition, Jared volunteers at Trinity Church in Tariffville. He has also taken on the role as “teacher’s assistant” in his AP Stats class, where he helps students manage and maintain strict time sensitive deadlines in class. 

Jared was also a Camp Counselor for the Connecticut NorthStars, where he coached hundreds of elementary and middle school aged athletes for several weeks.

Jared has received awards such as 1st Place in Connecticut for Economics, as part of the Future Business Leaders of America. He has received Math Department Excellence awards in 2017 and 2018. Jared has also received Excellence awards in World Language for Spanish and a Certificate of Outstanding Academic Achievement in 2016 and 2017. 

Jared is also a member of the National Honor Society and the World Language Honor Society. He has also received the Scholar Athlete Award throughout his high school career.

As you can see by Jared’s impressive resume, it is understandable why he was chosen as the Rotary Student of the Month for February. Congratulations Jared!
