SFES Seeks Nominations for Hall of Honor

Since colonial times our quintessential New England town has produced sons and daughters who have distinguished themselves beyond the town’s boundaries. In more recent times, as part of its mission to promote excellence in the Suffield Public Schools and pride in the town, the Suffield Foundation for Excellent Schools (SFES) is soliciting nominations for the Suffield High School Hall of Honor. The Hall of Honor was conceived in 2002 as a way to inspire students through exceptional role models and instill a sense of tradition and pride in the school as well as the community at large. Selections are made only once in 4 years. Plaques with brief biographies and the accomplishments of past honorees are on the wall outside the high school auditorium as well as on the SFES website, and provide interesting reading.

Graduates of Suffield High School who have achieved noteworthy success in their respective fields, contributed greatly to the welfare of others, or been recognized for an individual outstanding achievement are worthy of consideration. The Hall seeks to represent graduates from a broad range of endeavors including business, the arts, science, education, government and community service. A committee of SFES and community members will choose 6 honorees from the nominations submitted. In addition, one teacher or administrator who has worked in the Suffield Public Schools for a minimum of 10 years and has had a “significant impact” on the lives of students in Suffield will be chosen for the SFES Award for Excellence in Education.

Although self nominations are welcomed and encouraged, it is not necessary for the nominee to live in Suffield. Accordingly, it is anticipated that many nominations of successful graduates who are far afield will have to come from family and friends still living in the area who are knowledgeable about the nominee’s success.

Nomination forms are available on the SFES website www.sfes.org or at Kent Memorial Library. You may also email your nomination including the nominee’s name, address, year of graduation (if known), contact information and reasons for the nomination, as well as your name and contact information to johannepresser@hotmail.com or send it to SFES, PO Box 503, Suffield CT 06078. The deadline for nominations is December 15. If you have any questions, please call Johanne Presser, Chair of the committee at 860-668-5521 or email her at the above address.

An assembly will be held at the high school where honorees will give a talk to students and receive their award. A luncheon, which will be open to the public, will be held after the assembly.
