Suffield has a new community participation opportunity for residents to remain engaged while still practicing social distancing. In 2019, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving established $100,000 community funds for each of the 29 towns in the Foundation’s region, which includes the town of Suffield.  The purpose of the community funds is to support residents in taking ownership around the needs in their towns and encourage broad and inclusive civic engagement.

Suffield residents will play a lead role in deciding how their community funds will be used through an Advisory Committee. Participation in the Advisory Committee is open to all Suffield residents age 14 and older, with the exception of elected officials.  Previous experience in community organizations or in grant-making is not needed.  Individuals who have not previously participated in community organizations are welcome and encouraged to apply!

The Fund’s Advisory Committee will be responsible for deciding on the committee’s operating procedures, developing a process to receive and evaluate applications to the fund, and making funding decisions.

A Selection Committee has been formed to conduct a broad outreach to town residents to apply for the Advisory Committee.  Social distancing will be accommodated for as long as needed through online or mail-in submissions and conference call meetings.  Please visit www.hfpg.org/suffieldcf for more information or to submit an application for the Suffield Community Fund Advisory Committee.   Please send questions to: suffieldcf@gmail.com
