Dr. Kara Ryczek and her friendly yellow lab, Charlie, are pictured on her front stoop. Her new veterinary service for cats and dogs offers home visits locally.

We are happy to welcome a new and innovative business to Suffield! This intriguing business is Paws Calls and is a home veterinary service.

Dr. Kara Ryczek, DVM, is the veterinarian/owner of this business. Kara grew up in Longmeadow and graduated from Longmeadow High School in 1992. She went on to earn a BS in Biology at Trinity College. In 2001, she earned her DVM, completing a 13-month small animal internship in medicine, surgery, and animal care. She opened her own business in early 2020 and practiced veterinary care for 20 years and felt ready to open a new clinic. Local communities have embraced this “at your own home” model and realize that medical care is less stressful for pets in their home environments and is a plus for busy households, especially with the pandemic!

Having obtained her license to practice in Connecticut this summer, Dr. Ryczek has found the response in northern Connecticut to be overwhelming. She sees new patients for routine care, vaccines, sick appointments and end-of-life services. This is all done at clients’ homes.

Currently treating only cats and dogs, the appointments are held in owners’ yards, enclosed porches or mudrooms. She is working to maintain sterility and safety in all situations.

Dr. Ryczek’s schedule allows more flexibility for scheduling making her available nights and weekends. Pet owners have another strong choice for the care of their beloved pets.

Welcome, Dr. Ryczek!
