Tips for Winter Wellness

Print More

There are a number of techniques to help keep your immunity high and your body in good condition, to support wellness all season so you can enjoy the chillier months.

Get Up & Move

Winter brings fewer hours of sunlight during the day, and per the National Sleep Foundation, darkness naturally causes the brain to release melatonin, a hormone that triggers sleepiness. Exercise can counteract this drowsiness.

Add Herbal Supplements

Herbal supplements can help support overall health. For example, the supplement turmeric, derived from root extracts of the Curcuma longa plant, is widely regarded to have numerous positive health implications.

Get Ample Rest

The National Sleep Foundation recommends older adults get at least seven to eight hours of sleep each night for optimal health.

Boost Immunity

During the winter months, when fresh fruit can be harder to find, supplements like Echinacea and Vitamin C from Nature’s Way can be another source of vitamin C.

Maintain Skin Health

You can take steps to minimize painful redness and flakiness or cracking by regularly moisturizing your skin with fragrance-free lotions and herbal oils.

Inclement Weather

In early December, we will be distributing Inclement Weather Care Packages containing non-perishable food items to those on our Grab & Go meal program. This can be used during the times we must close due to inclement weather.

We will post the closure on WFSB-Channel 3. We will also make a courtesy call to those that have reserved lunch that day.

AARP Driver Safety Courses

Like many of you, we have been looking forward to the new year to resume in-person events. Unfortunately, the majority of counties nationwide have seen a rise in COVID-19 cases. The top priority of AARP is the health and well-being of their volunteers and the community at large. Therefore, to minimize COVID-19 exposure, AARP Driver Safety has decided to cancel all in-person courses until March 1.

AARP Smart Driver on-line course is a great alternative especially for those who need to renew their car insurance discount. The special 25 percent discount has been extended through February 28. Website: www.aarpdriversafety.org Promo code for 25% discount: DRIVINGSKILLS.
