Suffield High School’s Rotary Student of the Month for December, Chris is a member of the Class of 2021. He has been on SHS’s indoor and outdoor track team throughout his high school years. Chris has been growing in his sport and working hard to improve every day. In his sophomore year, Chris received the “Coach’s Award.” Chris was the captain of the team in his junior year, and leads his team in warm-ups and workouts. He also makes sure the home meets run smoothly and that his teammates are working together. He was named All-Conference for track and field in his junior year. He also received the Leadership Award for his team that year.
Chris is a member of the Wildcat Advisory Team (WAG). WAG is a group of students who help Administration with various events at Suffield High School, such as Open House and Parent/Teacher conferences. The group also helps 8th graders make a smooth transition into 9th grade. Chris is a member of the Suffield Athletic Advisory Council (SAAC), whose goal is to make the SHS community more inclusive to all students in and out of sports.
Chick-Fil-A Leadership Academy is another group Chris is involved with. This group helps students develop leadership roles and has organized movie nights for children and the Dustin Doyon Memorial Road Race.
Chris is also a member of the WingMan Group. This group was adopted by Suffield Middle School Administration and helps to educate other students about all kinds of problems such as bullying, self-reflection and peer interactions.
Chris has volunteered in the community for years. He has worked with the Knights of Columbus, Sacred Heart Church and Hill Top Farms. In the church group they raised money for scholarships for students and at Hill Top Farm, the money raised helped out a local farm.
Through Suffield High School’s “Class to Career” course, Chris was involved in an internship from BrightStar Home Care. BrightStar is a home care agency that offers nursing assistance for hospitals and older residents of the Hartford area. Chris has received an Academic Excellence Award in Algebra II and is also an Honors Student at SHS.
