Congratulations to Jenna Devin and Cassie Hryniewicz of Suffield High School who received the North Central Act of Kindness Award (NCAOK).

Jenna and Cassie were nominated by a local citizen for an SHS Civics project that helps the elderly shop for their groceries. The Suffield woman wrote, “We all benefit when someone touches our life in an unexpected way. It’s a blessing that makes us feel great. Many times, we feel the need to reciprocate or at least thank that person, but we don’t always know how. My thought was to let Suffield High School know that your students’ unassuming act of kindness has become a lifetime memory for me.”

The program they created continues to go above and beyond the scope of their school project and has received donations from local area businesses to help sustain and grow their efforts.

The NCAOK Award is made possible through the Miller Family of Miller Farms Family Markets and the North Central Chamber of Commerce. The award is designed to honor students in Enfield, Somers and Suffield who regularly display redeeming qualities like civic awareness, commitment, kindness and care towards others. The NCAOK Award recognizes leadership and commitment, rather than scholastics or athletics.

Each student honored is given a personalized award plaque for their good deeds, and a donation is made in their name to a charitable organization of their choice.  They are recognized in front of their peers and parents during a monthly gathering to celebrate. Jenna requested her donation be made to the Jimmy Fund, and Cassie wanted her donation to go to Shriner’s Hospital.

Congratulations Jenna and Cassie!
