It was a beautiful, sunny, warm and spring-like Sunday for our St. Patrick’s Day weekend family collaborative hike and workshop with Mat Jobin, owner of Reach Your Summit and the Town of Suffield Parks and Recreation Department, volunteer-Stephan Bastrzycki and Sue Mayne of The Trees for Suffield Initiative. We had a terrific turnout and important Leave No Trace Principles, hiking safety, the ten hiking essentials and trip planning were all presented during the first part of the workshop and then the group enjoyed the beauty of Sunrise Park for the hiking portion. Mat Jobin has a great deal of valuable experience shared from guiding groups for over 14 years with tacking solo pursuits and thru hikes. Mat presented a show and tell of the latest gear and reviews that can help make hiking experiences more enjoyable. After the presentation, we broke up into two hiking groups that took part in the led hiking portion of the trip where everyone was able to enjoy the beautiful flora, fauna and incredible trees at Sunrise Park. Sunrise Park is a true gem. At the end of the hike and workshop, participants enjoyed snacks and treats. We hope that everyone had a fun time celebrating St. Patrick’s Day weekend on our family day hike!
